Kenneth A Cimino Jr

Kenneth is a writer and certified addiction counselor from West Haven, Connecticut, whose work is grounded in lived experience, service, and an unwavering commitment to human dignity. In long-term recovery from alcohol and drugs, he brings a rare combination of professional training and personal insight to the complex realities of homelessness, trauma, and addiction.

After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Kenneth traveled south to help those who had been displaced and left without support. What began as volunteer outreach quickly became a deeper immersion into the crisis. Determined to understand the situation from the inside—not as an observer, but as a neighbor—he moved into a large homeless tent encampment directly across from New Orleans City Hall. For two months, he lived alongside roughly 130 unhoused men and women, sharing their daily challenges, resilience, and stories of survival in a city struggling to rebuild.

His writing reflects the same qualities that shaped his work on the ground: compassion, clarity, and a commitment to telling the truth without sensationalism. Kenneth’s perspective is shaped by years of counseling individuals battling addiction, as well as his own journey through recovery. This dual lens allows him to illuminate the human side of crises that are often reduced to statistics.

Whether documenting the aftermath of Katrina or exploring the broader issues of homelessness and recovery, Kenneth writes with purpose—to inform, to humanize, and to help others see the people behind the headlines.
